AUTHENTIC GOSPEL

Colossians 2:6-23 Introduction: “Not what it seems” Some years ago, I stumbled across a vibrant church in Puchong. Their members seem to be committed followers of Jesus Christ, eager to serve Him and share with others about Jesus. Many would even given up a year or two of their life to share their faith. Chances are some of you have met them, or seen them in action: young men, white shirt, black pants, wearing a badge. Problem is that they don’t believe that Jesus really is God. They don’t believe that the Bible is really the Word of God, but it’s corrupt and missing key teachings. And they don’t believe that Jesus has done enough to bring us into the eternal kingdom. You have to believe God

LOSING GOD IN THE JOURNEY

EXODUS 32:1-14 It’s often said “a leopard can’t change its spots.” Meaning a person’s character is not really fluid. It’s fixed. They’re born this way. So, if someone is mean or miserly, they might be able to hide it for a while, but eventually their true selves will emerge. This appears to be true, except for one species: the 40-year-old human male. They call this transformation: “the mid-life crisis.” Some even have a checklist. Did you get any of these recently? Sports car. Plastic Surgery. Designer Clothes. Motorcycle. Tattoo. Of course, it’s all tongue-in-cheek. It’s not considered a real medical condition. But it’s common enough for many to notice it and write about it. Why? What’s goi

TESTED / TRANSFORMED VESSELS

2 CorINTHIANS 3:18; 4:7-18 Q. What would you do when you come across a bottle with a label – ‘unbreakable’? Don’t simply believe, but test to make sure the claim is true. Buy only products with SIRIM label – “tested and found reliable.” Got no SIRIM label for Christians when they testify that God’s grace leads to a better life-fulfilment, even for ordinary people whom the Bible describes as earthen vessels. Cannot test but can observe how Christians hold themselves when they face life difficulties. We are earthen vessels alright, not metallic glass stronger than steel. We remain very much victims to forces beyond our control – harassed mothers when kids grow up –victimized by overbearing bos

AUTHENTIC SERVANTS OF CHRIST

Introduction: Destined to rule? Earlier this year, I received an email asking if KVBC Trust, the organisation I serve with, is interested to team up to produce a Bahasa version of a book that seeks to warn the church about prosperity gospel. What is prosperity gospel? Let me read you an excerpt from a popular book that’s associated with this movement. Chapter 1 begins: “You are destined to reign in life. You are called by the Lord to be success, to enjoy wealth, to enjoy health and to enjoy a life of victory …” Why? Paragraph 2 explains: “Whatever your vocation is, you are destined to reign in life because Jesus is Lord of your life. When you reign in life, you reign over sin, you reign over
